Published in: ASRM Bulletin and Press Release
This morning ASRM sent out the following statement, attributable to Christos Coutifaris MD, PhD, President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
“On behalf of America’s specialists in reproductive medicine, it is an honor to offer our congratulations to Senator Tammy Duckworth on the news that she is pregnant. Senator Duckworth will be the first member of the US Senate to give birth while in office. The tale of Senator Duckworth’s bravery and tenacity while recovering from the wounds she suffered while in the military are well known. Her subsequent struggles to build a family and her candor about those struggles have required their own bravery and tenacity, and we commend her for them.
Senator Duckworth has been a champion for women’s health throughout her political career. She has been instrumental in assuring her fellow veterans could access advanced infertility treatment, and been a staunch supporter of medical research.
We appreciate Senator Duckworth’s service to her country in the military and in Congress and wish her and her family the best of luck in this exciting new chapter in their lives.”
