“Given our long-time operational presence in Birmingham, it is quite an honor to have our Chief Education and Science Officer, Chevis Shannon, Dr.PH and our former Chief Executive Officer, Ricardo Azziz, M.D. recognized by the University of Alabama at Birmingham as business leaders. We wish them well during the virtual ceremony this evening.
“We are a professional medical society headquartered in Washington, D.C. and have offices in Birmingham. As a not-for-profit medical society we are not often thought of as a business, but we are a multimillion-dollar organization that requires skillful management to fulfill our mission. Dr. Shannon does a remarkable job leading our educational offerings to members, and stewarding good science out of the ASRM Research Institute. We are lucky to have her on our team. While Dr. Azziz is about to leave ASRM, we are grateful for his service, and for this recognition of it."
