HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR REPRODUCTIVE MEDICINE’S 2019 SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS & EXPO
Philadelphia, PA- ASRM is excited to announce our new President, Catherine Racowsky Ph.D., HCLD. Dr. Racowsky is currently the Director of the ART Laboratory at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard Medical School. She served as ASRM’s secretary for eleven years before transitioning to Vice President.
Dr. Racowsky received her Bachelor of Arts in Zoology from the University of Oxford, her Ph.D. in Reproductive Physiology from the University of Cambridge and did her post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School.
Her research interests include investigating the effects of maternal and environmental factors on egg quality, studying the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying egg maturation in vivo and in vitro, and expanding methodologies for assessing human embryo developmental competency and elevating quality standards in the clinical IVF laboratory.
Dr. Racowsky has distinguished herself by serving on many professional committees including the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) Executive Council, the International Taskforce for Stem Cell Research, several government oversight committees for reproductive medicine, and the ASRM Practice Committee. She was co-chair of the World Health Organization Work Group to write WHO Guidelines for IVF/ICSI, was a past president of the New England Fertility Society and has served as an Associate Editor of Human Reproduction and Fertility & Sterility.
She is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics and is on the editorial board of Fertility and Sterility and Reproductive Biomedicine Online.
Dr. Racowsky’s passion for improving IVF standards globally can be seen in her work. The author of over 150 peer-reviewed papers on various aspects of mammalian oocyte and embryo physiology, she has published numerous news releases and book chapters, and has co-edited seven books. She has also spoken internationally at ART meetings throughout the world.
She has received numerous honors and awards including several Partners Healthcare Excellence Awards in Leadership and Team Innovation from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the Embryologist/Scientist of the Year from the Turkish Society for Reproductive Medicine, an Honorary Membership of SRM Argentina and an Outstanding Service and Reviewer award from Fertility and Sterility.
On becoming president, Dr. Racowsky says “The ASRM has been a central part of my professional life and integral to my professional development for nearly 30 years. It has been a pleasure to serve in numerous capacities including as a member of our practice committee, on our board and as a participant at every annual meeting since 1991. I am deeply honored to lead our society as president for the coming year.”

The Society accomplishes its mission through the pursuit of excellence in education and research and through advocacy on behalf of patients, physicians, and affiliated health care providers.
