Mixing and administration of hCG and progesterone

HCG - 10,000 units (intramuscular injection)
Profasi - 10,000 units (intramuscular injection)
Pregnyl - 10,000 units (intramuscular injection)
Ovidrel - 250 micrograms (subcutaneous injection)

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBCUTANEOUS INJECTION

Use all of the diluent and an 18-gauge 1½" needle and 1 cc syringe for mixing. Replace with original needle (27 gauge) for injecting.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR 1ST HCG INJECTION

HCG, Profasi, Novarel, and Pregnyl are all the same medication. Each comes with a 10-cc bottle of sterile water and a bottle of powder.

Mix with an 18 gauge 1 ½" needle.
You only need 1 cc of water to mix with the powder.
Mix well
Change to a 25 gauge 1 ½" needle for the injection.
Inject all of the medication.
You will have 9 cc of water left over. Discard this.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBCUTANEOUS HCG INJECTION (Ovidrel 250 MCG)

Ovidrel is premixed in a syringe that has a needle attached.

Remove rubber cap on syringe
With needle pointed up, gently push up on the plunger to expel air.
Inject the medication subcutaneously

The nurse will instruct you on when to give the injection. The instructions as to the time for administration of HCG must be followed exactly.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2ND HCG INJECTION (IF ORDERED BY MD)

Mix with an 18 gauge 1 ½" needle.
Use 3 cc of the 10 cc diluent to mix with the powder
Inject 3 cc of air into the vial of diluent prior to drawing out the fluid
Shake mixture gently
Draw 1.0 cc of mixture into the syringe
Change to a 25 gauge 1 ½" needle for intramuscular injection

The remaining medication can be used within 30 days if refrigerated. Label bottle "BOOSTER ONLY" and write the date that it was reconstituted.

PROGESTERONE

Progesterone comes in a multi-dose vial. Progesterone must be drawn up with an 18 gauge 1 ½" needle and must be injected with a 22 gauge 1 ½" needle
